The Search Continues

The search for a job or a way of making some money continues, however progress is agin being made. Recently I have been stepping up my efforts and have sent off a good number applications to all sorts of places, including google. Also to try and improve my prospects I have re-writen my resume as things were not going so well with the old format. But as luck would have it the old Cv might have been ok as I got contacted by a prospective employer on Monday and have a telephone interview tomorrow.

As an other option and to maybe try something new I applied to be a freelance writer for the San Francisco Examiner. As part of the progress I submitted the following example short article along with a few story ideas. It’s the first time I have tried anything like this so I am not expecting too much, but I enjoyed doing it and you never know if you don’t try….

Sony Ericsson To Cut Jobs

It is expected that the mobile phone handset maker Sony Ericsson will be announcing further redundancies. The firm made cuts in September of last year and it’s anticipated that the cuts could be more substantial this time around, with the company undertaking wide ranging restructuring to cut costs. The news comes on the same day that president Barak Obama has warned of the risk of a double-dip rescission to the US economy An official press release has not yet been made by Sony Ericsson but news has been spreading fast following an alleged internal announcement made this morning to employees. It is not know what the effects will be on the companies operation in Redwood City.

Following the success of Sony Ericsson’s walkman and cyber shot range of handsets the companies market share and profits have been in decline. Although profits were up in Q2 from Q1 the company still reported a loss and a drop in sales.

The once innovative phone maker has fallen behind it’s rivals such as Apple and with the launch of the new Android powered Xperia X10 not expected until next year. It could be some time before Sony Ericson can start to mount a serious challenge.
